Four sentenced to RI in rape case

Two persons were sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment and two others to seven years imprisonment by a fast-track court for their involvement in raping a minor for over a year.

The quartet had allegedly raped the girl, a resident of the Sundar Nagar slum area of suburban Kurla, in November 2006 and continued to do so till March 2008, police said.

The girl was allegedly threatened by the accused who had said they would humiliate or kill her if she told anyone about the incidents.

The girl, who was living with her mother and sister, had approached the police with her mother in 2008 to file a complaint against the four men after she was found to be pregnant. Her mother is employed was employed as a labourer, police said.

Four persons were arrested and charged with rape, they said, adding that the trial was conducted before a fast track court in Sewree court complex.

The court sentenced two of the accused Allarakha Sayyed and Munirali Karimali Shaikh to 10 years rigourous imprisonment and ordered them to pay a penalty of Rs 25,000.

The two others, Liyakatali Khan and Shaukatali Khan were sntenced to seven years imprisonment and were ordered to pay a fine of Rs 25,000, police officials said.
